Supervisory Board

Dr Marie Sophie Jaroni was appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board and Chairwoman of the ESG Committee of the SEFE Supervisory Board in October 2023.

Since 2021, Marie has been Head of Decarbonisation and ESG (SVP/ Head of Decarbonisation) at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe.

After leading the transformation programme as Head of Transformation at the Business Area Industrial Solution thyssenkrupp, she took over as Head of Strategy and Communications for thyssenkrupp Steel Europe in 2020.

She has overarching responsibility for the implementation of the transformation to climate-neutral steel production and thus for 20 million tonnes of CO₂ reduction, which amounts to 2.5% of German CO₂ emissions. She manages all activities regarding H₂ project development with energy partners, including applying for the necessary funding for the establishment of a viable business model. She is an active Ambassador for thyssenkrupp’s green transformation.

Before joining the Business Area Industrial Solution thyssenkrupp in autumn 2017, Marie worked at McKinsey & Company for over six years and was responsible for international transformation projects in Germany, the United States and Hong Kong.

She studied metallurgy and materials engineering at the renowned RWTH Aachen University. This was followed by a doctorate on the “Supply of Raw Materials (rare earths elements) in Europe”.
