Ensuring the security of gas supply in Germany and Europe and driving the green energy transition are two of the most important and urgent challenges of our time. That is why I personally am very proud of SEFE's contribution and role for society. Together with our strong team, I am convinced that we can do our part to Securing Energy for Europe.

Short Bio | Dr. Egbert Laege

Dr. Egbert Laege was appointed in June 2022 Managing Director and in February 2023 Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SEFE Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE). Between April and November 2022 he also served as trustee of the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) for SEFE.

Egbert Laege has already been active in energy and commodity trading for 25 years. He has held various senior and executive positions in power and gas trading, asset optimisation, strategy and commodity exchange business. He was a Member of the Management Board at the European Energy Exchange (EEX), President and CEO at the gas exchange POWERNEXT in Paris, and CEO of EEX Asia in Singapore. Prior to this, he served as Chief Commercial Officer and Member of the Management Board of E.ON Global Commodities and as a Member of the Management Board of E.ON Ruhrgas. Before joining SEFE, he was a senior advisor for the energy sector at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). 

Moreover, Egbert Laege is an honorary board member of the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET). He was awarded this membership in 2017 in recognition of his valuable contribution to EFET as a Board Member (2004-2016) and his contribution as Chair of the Standardization Legal Committee and Chair of the Compliance Committee. 

Egbert Laege holds a degree in Energy Engineering and Energy Economics from the University of Stuttgart, Germany and the University of Arizona, USA as well as a Ph.D. in Energy Economics.
